# Assign providers and properties

> Control who gets offered a booking first, and which of your properties can book this service.

A service isn't bookable anywhere until it's linked to at least one property, and it won't have anyone obvious to assign it to until it's linked to at least one provider.

## Preferred providers (step 4 of the builder)

Pick which providers should be **offered first** when a request for this service comes in.

<Note>
  This is a preference list, not an exclusive one. When you assign an incoming request, preferred providers appear at the top of the list — but any other provider linked to the request's property can still be found and picked if needed. See [Assigning a request](/requests/assigning-a-request).
</Note>

## Properties (step 5 of the builder)

Pick which properties can offer this service. A service assigned to no properties never appears in any guest catalog.

## Editing links after the service exists

You don't have to reopen the whole wizard. From the **Services** list, each row shows a provider count and a property count — click either to see who's linked, with an **Edit** shortcut that jumps straight to that step.

You can also go the other direction: from the **Properties** page, each property card shows a services count — click it to assign or remove services for that specific property without touching the service's own settings.

## How this connects to assigning requests

A provider only shows up as assignable on a request if they're linked to **both** the request's service and its property — see [Assigning providers](/providers/assigning-providers) for the full rule. Preferred providers just get top billing in that list; they still need the underlying property + service links to be selectable at all.
